HMRC's self-assessment helpline will not now close on Friday 30 January 2026
Self-assessment. The deadline for those who need to file a self-assessment return for the 2024/25 tax year is 31 January 2026. This is a Saturday and HMRC had previously confirmed that the last day their phone lines would be open prior to the deadline would be Friday 30 January 2026. It has now reversed that decision
65% rise in self-assessment payments via the HMRC app
The number of people using the HMRC app to pay their self-assessment tax bill has increased by nearly 65%. Almost 340,000 people have used the HMRC app to pay their self-assessment tax since 6 April 2025, an increase of 132,788 people compared to the same period last year
